We are looking to hire a talented Business Development and Community Partnerships Director to join our team. Reporting to the CEO, this remote key role is responsible for establishing and growing partnerships with external communities including libraries, library consortia, funders, scientific societies, university departments, research networks and other existing and potential partners, to help us achieve our goal of promoting open access and open science. Our ideal candidate will be trusted to be innovative, and not be afraid to disrupt scholarly publishing.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Identify new business opportunities for JMIR Publications including new journals or products and services Design new publishing deal structures (transformed agreements, Plan P), lead  business pitches, proposals, and contract negotiations with libraries, library consortia, funders, scientific societies and research communities
  • Create and execute strategies for JMIR Publications to close deals with libraries and funders
  • Create meaningful, long term relationships with new and existing institutional clients, research communities, societies and other partners Identify, qualify, pitch and close new business with new partners in line with our core strengths & capabilities
  • Identify, connect with, and sell to potential advertisers and sponsors for special projects such as our Career Centre, theme issues and special publishing projects
  • Expand awareness of JMIR Publications  in the medical publishing community
  • Work with the Publisher to develop custom proposals, sales and marketing materials and sponsored solutions for libraries, funders, research communities, advertisers and other partners
  • In collaboration with the marketing department, manage key marketing activities, including relationships and audience development

Your Qualifications:
  • Proven success in exceeding goals and expectations in edtech and/or publishing industries, as well as keen understanding of the latest challenges, opportunities, and trends in the digital course materials marketplace
  • Proficient in G suite of tools and expertise with CRM software such as Hubspot or Salesforce
  • Eagerness to engage in person and virtually with partners and colleagues at meetings, trade shows, and company events. Some international travel required
  • Over 5 years experience working in scholarly publishing, preferably in a partnership manager, marketing or sales role
  • Knowledge and appreciation of the advances in digital publishing
